MY APPROACH TO THERAPY

  • I specialize in holistic, integrative therapy that focuses on mind, body, and spirit. My work draws deeply from somatic therapy, polyvagal theory, internal family systems, and energy psychology. This means I don’t just focus on thoughts and emotions; I also pay close attention to the body’s signals and wisdom, creating a truly comprehensive approach to healing.

  • Somatic therapy is a body-centered approach that recognizes how experiences (especially traumas) can become “stuck” in our physical being. Through gentle mindfulness and body-based techniques, we work together to release this stored energy so you can feel more grounded and free.

  • I’ve found that talk therapy alone often isn’t enough for deep, lasting transformation. While talking about your experiences is still important, I focus on what’s happening in your body and nervous system at the same time. By integrating both mind and body, we can access the root of your challenges and support more profound shifts.

  • I primarily work with women who feel disconnected from their bodies, stuck in perfectionism or people-pleasing, or who struggle with codependency and burnout. Many of my clients are spiritually curious or aware; people who want to live more consciously and seek a deeper connection with themselves, the earth, and the world around them. However, if you feel called to this work, regardless of your identity, I welcome you.

  • No. While I personally weave spirituality into my approach, you don’t need to identify with any specific religion or spiritual practice. My goal is to honor your beliefs and help you discover whatever deeper sense of meaning or connection feels true for you.

  • You can expect a safe, nonjudgmental space where your body’s wisdom and emotional experiences are taken seriously. We’ll explore somatic techniques, mindful awareness, and sometimes spiritual or energetic approaches, depending on what you feel comfortable with. My role is to guide you in reconnecting with yourself, trusting your inner wisdom, and finding greater balance in your life.

MY SERVICES & POLICIES

  • Because I’m licensed in New York and North Carolina, my therapy services are limited to those states. However, you’re always welcome to reach out to see if we can discuss referrals or resources in your area.

  • Yes, I offer virtual sessions for clients in North Carolina and New York State. Telehealth can be a great option for those who prefer to work from the comfort of their own home or have busy schedules that make in-person sessions challenging.

  • I’m currently in network with Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, and Optum in both New York and North Carolina. I also accept out-of-network clients and can provide a Superbill for potential reimbursement. If you have another insurance carrier, it’s worth checking if your plan offers out-of-network coverage.

  • If I’m not in network with your insurance company, I can still provide you with a Superbill, a detailed receipt of our sessions. You can submit this directly to your insurance provider for potential partial reimbursement. Coverage varies, so it’s always best to check with your plan about out-of-network benefits.

    1. Pay for the session upfront.

    2. Request a Superbill from me.

    3. Submit the Superbill to your insurance provider (online portal, email, or mail).

    4. Your insurance will review your claim and potentially reimburse you according to your out-of-network benefits.

  • Individual therapy sessions are 55 minutes long and cost $175. If you’re using in-network insurance, your copay or coinsurance depends on your specific plan. Out-of-network clients pay the session fee, then pursue any reimbursement directly with their insurance.

  • I kindly request at least 24 hours’ notice for any cancellations. If you cancel within 24 hours of your scheduled session, a cancellation fee will be charged. This policy helps ensure fairness to everyone seeking appointments and respects both our schedules.

  • This really depends on your goals and personal circumstances. Some people experience significant shifts within a few months, while others find ongoing therapy beneficial for deeper exploration and support. We’ll collaborate to determine the pace and duration that feels right for you.

  • You can reach out to me by phone at 704-750-5976 or by email at therapy@jessica-bruno.com. Once we connect, we’ll schedule a brief consultation to ensure we’re a good fit, and then we’ll find a regular appointment time that works for you.

Breaking Free from Internalized Patriarchy

  • Internalized patriarchy refers to the unconscious beliefs and patterns we’ve absorbed from a society centered on male dominance. It can show up as perfectionism, people-pleasing, self-doubt, or disconnection from our bodies and intuition. Recognizing this “silent virus” is the first step toward releasing it, paving the way for deeper self-trust and empowerment.

  • Living under these ingrained beliefs can keep the nervous system in a state of chronic stress or overwhelm. This tension not only impacts emotional well-being but also shows up as physical symptoms such as muscle tension, fatigue, or digestive issues. By addressing the somatic imprints of patriarchy, we can find lasting relief and true alignment.

  • Deconstructing internalized patriarchy can be deeply spiritual, but it doesn’t require you to identify with any specific religion or spiritual practice. It’s more about reconnecting with your inherent wisdom, intuition, and worth, however you define that. In essence, healing the trauma of internalized patriarchy naturally brings us closer to our authentic selves, which many describe as a profoundly meaningful experience.

  • My approach combines somatic therapy, polyvagal theory, internal family systems, and energy psychology to address both the emotional and physical layers of this trauma. We explore the narratives, sensations, and triggers that arise in your body, then use gentle mind-body techniques to release what no longer serves you. It’s a blend of science, spirituality, and self-compassion, tailored to your unique journey.

  • Traditional talk therapy often overlooks the deeper imprint these cultural beliefs can have on the body and psyche. By shining a light on internalized patriarchy, we go beyond surface-level conversations and uncover the root of many struggles women face. This integrative lens fosters a more complete healing; one that empowers you to rewrite your story and reclaim your innate worth and wisdom.
